In old typewriters, the lock key is operated to retain the carriage in shifted position so that we can type in capital letters or upper symbols on the keyboard. This pair of "lock" keys belong to two 1948 Royal "Quiet De Luxe" typewriters. Its unique shape make them very special since this is the only typewriter that has this D-shaped contour. It is one of the hardest models to find.
