Wild Retreat - Musa Agua
Underwater Creative Photoshoots - Wildlife Encounters - Drone Art - Desert Island Immersion -Breathwork/Somatics
Join our most Creative Expedition in the Sea of Cortés. We will combine marine life, artistic exploration and off grid adventure, for an unparalleled experience, guiding you to connect with yourself and your inner water element.
No phone signal, just raw nature and 5 days for us to nurture the water muse within and capture as much creative magic as possible, all whilst immersing in the ocean every single day.
Expedition highlights include a sunrise shoot in the cactus fields, ocean safaris freediving with marine life such as dolphins, hammerheads & sea lions, plus an array of fine art underwater & aerial photoshoots. Complimented with plenty of grounding time with breathwork, meditation, yoga and writing workshops. Finally, stargaze from our basecamp each night, as we sleep wild under the stars on our own private beach.
Walk away with all the underwater, aerial and portrait content that your heart could ever desire, from one of the most unique settings I’ve ever laid eyes on (head to our @musa.agua or Zoë Lower’s portfolio to get inspired and see what we will create together).

About the trip

We will spend our first night in a spacious Airbnb in La Paz. From there, we’ll head to our desert island for three nights, where you’ll share a tent with another muse, complete with a comfortable mattress and cozy bedding. Our final night will be in La Ventana, staying together in a beautiful villa.
-
All meals will be provided, as well as lunch box on expedition days (burritos, ceviche, etc). Vegetarian and vegan options are available and must be communicated to me before the trip.
We will count with fresh seafood and fish in our desert island, fished and cooked by the captain and his family.
-
Freediving equipment: mask, snorkel, fins, 5mm wetsuit
Hat, buff, polarized sunglasses, warm sweater, dry bag, beach towel, dry clothes for after diving, waterproof jacket, sandals or shoes that can get wet
Personal water bottle (although there will be water and drinks available on the boat)
Any special foods or medications (seasickness tablets, waterproof bandaids for fin sores, electrolytes)
-
We will be showcasing a curated selection of swimsuits, jewelry, and fabrics for you to choose from. However, feel free to bring along any of your favorite swimsuits or fabrics that you'd like to incorporate into the photoshoot.

While there’s a high likelihood we’ll encounter a variety of seasonal wildlife, we can’t guarantee it 100%. The same goes for the conditions — we’ll see what the ocean provides. That said, this time of year is typically great for calm, glassy waters.
August can be quite hot in this region, but since we’ll be camping a bit north of La Paz, the nights should be cooler and more refreshing.

You can fly directly into La Paz International Airport (LAP) from Tijuana (TIJ), Ciudad de México (MEX) o Guadalajara (GDL). There are also direct flights from Los Angeles (LAX).
Another option is to fly to Los Cabos International Airport (SJD), which offers many direct flights from the United States and Europe. Please note that if you choose this option you will have to arrange a taxi to La Paz (around 100 USD).
FAQs
-
Two different species of sea lions (Guadalupe and California)
Different species of dolphins (Risso, Spinner, common or bottle nose)
Whales (even though it is not the whale season, blue whales can be seen in this time of the year, as well as some rare resident humpback whales and fin whales)
Orcas can bee seen all year round in the Sea of Cortes (fingers crossed!)
Hammer head sharks - We will take you to a ver special place where hammerheads congregate during this time of the year (the stay around 20 meters deep and gather in big groups resting during the day in the currents). At night they go our hunting fro squid in the ope ocean
Turtles, different species of fish and birds, mobula rays, etc…
While there’s a very high chance of seeing these creatures, encounters aren’t 100% guaranteed as we never know what the ocean will provide. Sometimes, even small changes in water temperature can attract unexpected species. Who knows what surprises 2025 has in store? Let’s find out together!

Sure! Here's a more polished and engaging version:
Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! At the Musa Agua Retreat, you’ll gain a variety of skills to help you feel confident and comfortable underwater, including:
Buoyancy control
Exhale diving techniques
Posing & modeling underwater
Equalization check-ups
Breath-hold comfort
These are just some of the techniques we’ll explore together, ensuring you feel at ease during our photoshoots and can express yourself freely, with no limits!
-
A freediving certification is not required, but participants must be able to swim at least 200 meters unaided, feel comfortable in the open ocean, and be capable of jumping in and out of the boat (a ladder is available for ease). 95% of the marine life in this expedition can be seen from the surface, so don’t worry if you don’t have freediving experience, you will still enjoy every encounter!
-
The water temperature in the Sea of Cortez, near San José Island, typically ranges between 27°C to 30°C (81°F to 86°F) in the warmer months. These temperatures can vary slightly due to weather patterns and ocean currents but are generally glassy and flat for activities like snorkeling, freediving, and marine expeditions this time of the year.
Even though it is not needed, we do recommend bringing a thin wetsuit or rash guard and leggings to protect yourself from the sun.
